Developing countries of Latin America and Asia applied to UN Security Council on Thursday demanding to cease fire in Libya and settle the conflict, report Mexican news agencies.

The letter addressed to Li Baodong, Chinese ambassador to the UN was signed by Venezuela, Cuba, Ecuador, Bolivia, Nicaragua, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Dominica, Antigua and Barbuda, Cambodia, Indonesia, Mali, Equatorial Guinea, and Vietnam.

Text of the document was also encouraged by representatives of Brazil, India, and South Africa – countries which did not sign this appeal due to current status of Security Council members.

The letter demands to immediately stop air bombings and missile strikes, and to start peaceful negotiations between rebels and Gaddafi's administration.

On March 17 UN Security Council adopted the resolution imposing a no-fly zone over Libya and allowing international military operation against Gaddafi's regime. The operation named Odyssey Dawn started on March 19 and is currently attended by Great Britain, France, the U.S., Canada, Belgium, Italy, Spain, and Denmark. Last Sunday NATO Council decided to take command over military operation in Libya. Reportedly, US, France, and Great Britain flirt with idea to arm Gaddafi's opponents in Libya. Russian foreign minister Sergei Lavrov says Russia is against any arms deliveries to Libyan opposition.
