Sole supplier of navy vessels

06.05.2009
Northern Shipyard in Saint Petersburg has become the Russian Navy's sole supplier of several classes of surface vessels.

Northern Shipyard (Severnaya Verf) will deliver corvettes, frigates and communication boats to the Russian Navy without competition, Governor of Saint Petersburg Valentina Matvienko said during a visit to the shipyard. According to Matvienko, the decision to give Northern Shipyard defence orders without competitive tendering was made by the Federal Service for Defense Contracts, Rosbalt.ru writes.

The shipyard has full order books for the period to 2013. At the time, the plant is building 14 vessels, including three service ships for Norwegian oil companies and navy ships for Algeria.
