Brown confirmed British intention to reduce number of new nuclear subs

28.09.2009
Great Britain is ready to reduce number of new nuclear submarines planned to construction from 4 to 3 if the global bargain on nuclear disarmament is closed. That was said by the British Prime Minister Gordon Brown in his speech at UN Security Council Summit on nuclear disarmament and nonproliferation.

These submarines represent a new class and will be put into service by mid 2020-ies, underlined the head of British Government.

The United Kingdom has already taken other considerable steps on the way to disarmament, reminded Brown. For example, it "decreased reserves of arm explosives on 75%". According to British Premier, France has made important disarmament decisions as well.

Brown underlined that "the US and Russia have made a great progress in negotiations about new treaty on reduction of strategic offensive arms".
