Black Sea Fleet (BSF) large landing ship Yamal yesterday sailed off Sevastopol heading for the Mediterranean Sea. Another BSF warship – frigate Ladny – had recently returned from the Mediterranean to the homebase.

There is marine unit and BSF military orchestra on board Yamal, reported New Region referring to BSF press service.

During the long-range cruise, the ship's crew will pay a number of calls at Greek and Montenegrin ports.

Official call at the port of Corfu is associated with memory days of Russian famed admiral Fedor Ushakov who headed the Russian fleet liberated Corfu Island from foreign invaders in 1799; social forum "Russian Week at Corfu" will be also conducted there.

Visiting Montenegrin port Bar, Russian mariners will participate in festivities related to 65th anniversary of the termination of WW2.

The crew of Yamal will attend festive events at Greek port Pilos associated with victory in Navarino battle, when Russo-Franco-British squadron defeated Turkish-Egyptian fleet during Greek national revolt of 1821-1829.

Besides, Russian sailors will traditionally visit port of Piraeus to pay military honors to compatriots buried at Russian Memorial Cemetery.

Before return to Sevastopol, BSF large landing ship Yamal is going to call at Spetses Island.
