Baltic Fleet (BF) marines conducted tactical exercise in Oct 5-8 under auspices of BF Coastal Defense Force Commander Gen. Maj. Andrei Nechaev; the exercise consisted of 4 stages – alarm call, march, deconcentration, and combat firings.

Having finished preparatory activities at Khmelevka range, "black berets" arrived to Povenkovo Training Center at the final stage where practiced repelling of the "enemy" which violated the Russian state border and advanced towards Russia's western enclave – Kaliningrad region.

BF marine force commander Lt. Col. Yury Boichenko was tasked to conduct counter attack and decided to perform airborne raid. Paratroopers consolidated on the objective and held the terrain until main forces came.

"Having analyzed potential scenario of combat operation with regard to geographical position of Kaliningrad region, we developed a maximum-realistic exercise concept", said Gen. Maj. Andrei Nechaev.

Apart of transport aircrafts, BF naval helicopters were also involved; they practiced missile attacks to support paratroopers' actions.

After the 150-km march, main forces of marines arrived to the assigned region and got into action. During the combat firings all commanders practiced artillery fire control.

About 500 servicemen, over 60 combat vehicles, and 6 BF naval helicopters were involved in the tactical exercise. As for Gen. Maj. Andrei Nechaev, marines have displayed splendid tactical skills.

BF coastal units got into action at the second stage of the exercise and were supposed to exploit success of marines; that was a combat training operation aimed at liquidation of the occupying forces.
