Frigate Admiral Flota Sovetskogo Soyuza Gorshkov – lead ship of Project 22350 – will be launched on Oct 29, reported press service of Severnaya Verf shipyard to Central Navy Portal.

According to the shipyard's press service, main mechanical equipment including diesel generators has been already installed. After launching the ship will be put at the yard's fitting quay.

Frigate Admiral Flota Sovetskogo Soyuza Gorshkov is expected to start sea trials late in summer or in autumn of 2011; according to the contract, the ship is to be delivered to Russian Navy till the end of 2011.

We recall that the ship was laid down in 2006. Such long term of construction is explained by non-systematic financing and traditional difficulties associated with building of a lead ship. As of today, financing of construction is being held regularly, reports Severnaya Verf.

The second ship of Project 22350 – first serial frigate Admiral Flota Kasatonov – was laid down in 2009. Currently, the ship's hull is being shaped; delivery to the Navy is scheduled in 2012.

Project 22350 is developed by Severnoye Design Bureau and designed for distant naval operations. The ship's displacement is about 4,500 tons, length is somewhat 130. Fuel range is over 4,000 nautical miles. The armament will include 130-mm gun mount, antiship, antisubmarine, and antiaircraft weapons. Basing of onboard helicopter is also provided.
