Officers of Sakhalin coast guard dept, Russian FSB Frontier Service detained three citizens of India sailed on liquefied natural gas (LNG) tanker Grand Elena without permit to cross Russian state border, reported RIA Novosti referring to Frontier Service Public Relations Group.

"The vessel arrived to Russia from S Korean port Ulsan; abovementioned people were the crewmembers. According to cl. 18.1 part 2 of Russian Code of Administrative Violations, their actions are classified as "Violation of state border of the Russian Federation by foreign citizen or stateless person", said the official.

According to the spokesman, violators are penalized.

Cyprus-flagged LNG tanker Grand Elena is operated by Sakhalin Energy on a long-term basis and used for gas deliveries to Asian-Pacific customers. That is an ice-breaking tanker with deadweight of about 145,000 cubic meters.
