That is towed parametric multi-beam profiler Zond co-developed by Ritm Design Bureau. The torpedo-shaped profiler is designed for search and detection of bottom and silted objects, stratification of bottom sediments, definition of bottom type, and can be used while geophysical surveys both independently and within multi-functional sonar complexes.
The profiler's operating principle is based on generation of a field consisting of fan-shaped sounding signals with 5-7 static characteristics in each; subsequently, echo signals are non-directionally received with optimal filtering. Consuming 300 W, Zond is capable to operate at the depth down to 300 meters; while bottom ground surveys – at 5-30 meters.
Tonal sounding pulse (frequency of 3-10 Hz, duration of 0.1-2 milliseconds) and phase-shift pulse (duration of 5-10 milliseconds) can be used when pump wave frequency is 250 kHz. Distance resolution does not exceed 0.1 meter. Judging by characteristics, the profiler can be used for search of underwater objects with various structure and sizes.
