Regular presence of Russian warships in the Gulf of Aden and near the Horn of Africa will be continued in 2011, reported RIA Novosti referring to a spokesman for Russian Navy.

Russian warships to keep on patrolling the Gulf of Aden in 2011

"According to plans of Russian defense ministry and Navy command, Russian warships will go on patrolling the Gulf of Aden and the Horn of Africa on regular basis in 2011 with the view to secure civil shipping", said the official.
It is planned that in Dec 2010 Russian anti-piracy watch will be taken over by Pacific Fleet (PF) task unit consisting of large ASW ship Admiral Vinogradov, tanker Pechenga, and salvage tug SB-522. "Admiral Vinogradov will shift Northern Fleet (NF) large ASW ship Admiral Levchenko", added the interviewee.
He reminded that since July Admiral Levchenko had escorted 13 convoys with 57 merchant vessels and 231 Russian crewmembers.
