Black Sea Fleet (BSF) hydrographic ship GS-86 found a long object at the depth of 38 meters later classified as practice steam torpedo; it was detected during pre-exercise inspection of sea range held with participation of BSF submarine Alrosa.

BSF salvers lifted Soviet-made dummy torpedo

Information about potentially hazardous object was transferred to BSF Search and Rescue Dept.
Salvage vessel Epron was dispatched to the incident area; the ship is equipped with special instruments making detailed underwater videotapes. It was found out after survey that the torpedo was broken in two pieces.
Analysis of acquired information resulted in decision to lift up the torpedo.
Divers from BSF salvage ships brigade lifted the torpedo on board diving boat VM-154 within two days; all safety precaution rules were fulfilled.
Parts of torpedo were handed over to experts of BSF mine/torpedo service, and the range is open for combat training again.
