Indonesian president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono familiarized with newest projects of Russian submarines at international exhibition Indo Defense 2010.

"New projects of Amur class non-nuclear submarines were presented to Indonesian president. He was interested in distinctive features of Russian subs and what tasks they can perform", said representative of Rubin Central Design Bureau for Marine Engineering (St. Petersburg) in the interview to Interfax-AVN given at the exhibition.

According to him, the president was shown all three projects of submarines offered for export. Those are Amur class subs (Project 1650 and Project 950), and Kilo class sub (Project 636).

Besides, Indonesian president viewed exposition of Kurganmashzavod with information about infantry combat vehicles BMP-3F recently purchased by Indonesia.

Nikolai Dimidiuk, the head of Rosoboronexport delegation said to Interfax-AVN that Russia would attend the Indonesia's tender for submarines. Reportedly, this country can purchase two non-nuclear subs.

New generation diesel submarine Amur 1650 is capable to deliver missile strikes upon surface ships. Launch interval does not exceed several minutes. Armament includes cruise missiles, torpedoes, and mines. The submarine construction is carried out by JSC Admiralteyskie Verfi shipyard.

Distinctive feature of Amur 950 submarine is that missiles are placed in vertical tubes ready for rapid use including multiple launches. The sub's armament consists 10 vertical missile containers with antiship and anti-land cruise missiles. The submarine is capable to perform massive strike by a 10-missile launch performed within 2 minutes.
