Lada class submarines cannot show all their capabilities in the Black Sea, said Andrei Diachkov, director general of Rubin Central Design Bureau for Marine Engineering at the press conference in St. Petersburg.

That is just why the older Kilo class submarines were chosen for rapid reinforcement of Black Sea Fleet's (BSF) submarine force, pointed out Diachkov.
Lada class lead submarine St. Petersburg needs modifying of some auxiliary systems and is under experimental operation which is to be finished in 2011.
Recall that Russian Navy Commander-in-Chief Vladimir Vysotsky said that BSF would be reinforced with three Project 636 submarines and three frigates. The first sub – Novorossiysk – was laid down in Aug 2010 and is expected to be completed by 2013.
Project 636 diesel electric submarine was developed by Rubin design bureau. The sub constitutes an upgraded variant of Project 877 Paltus. Project 636 subs have been exported since 1986 and are in service at Indian, Polish, Algerian, Iranian, Romanian, and Chinese navies. Subs of this project are considered the world's most silent ones. Surface displacement is 2,350 tons; length is 73.8 meters; draft is 6.2 meters; beam is 9.9 meters; speed is 20 knots; endurance is 45 days; crew is 52. Armament consists of six 533-mm torpedo tubes (combat load is 18 torpedoes or 24 mines; antiship missiles ZM-54E and ZM-54E1 are also possible instead), MANPADS Strela-3.
