Three new submarines will be commissioned into Northern Fleet (NF) in 2011; that will ensure Russia's presence in key regions worldwide, said acting NF Commander Rear Admiral Andrei Volozhinsky on board large ASW ship Vice Admiral Kulakov.

According to the admiral, three submarines are under scheduled trials in the White Sea. Reinforcement of the fleet will strengthen its combat capability and enable to maintain Russia's year-round presence in key regions.

"Substantial changes in the fleet structure will also have an impact on its readiness. New submarines meet all requirements imposed", said Volozhinsky.

In 2011 Russian submarine fleet celebrates 105th anniversary since the day submarines were classified as a separate type of warships. The Red Banner Submarine Force established last year comprises all Northern Fleet's nuclear submarine divisions and is the most powerful formation in Russian Navy.
