Apr 7, 2010 is the 22nd anniversary of the tragedy happened in the Norwegian Sea when the fire on board Soviet nuclear-powered submarine K-278 Komsomolets caused deaths of people and shipwreck of the sub. Forty two crewmembers laid down their lives at struggle with the elements. The submarine's hull still rests on the Norwegian Sea's bottom at the 1.5-km depth.

Memorable activities were held today in Zaozersk naval base, Northern Fleet; that is just where Komsomolets started her last cruise. Wreath-laying ceremony and a memorable meeting were also conducted at the monument to lost submariners. Priests of the Nicholas the Sanctifier's Church chanted a requiem for those who failed to surface.

At 17:08 which is when Komsomolets wrecked all Northern Fleet surface ships and submarines dipped the St. Andrew's Flag; naval servicemen honored their lost colleagues with the one-minute silence. All nuclear submarine divisions gave a one-minute tyfon signals.

Later on, information officers told young sailors the story about tragedy happened 22 years ago and the heroism of Soviet submariners done their duties at the expense of lives.
