Dutch frigate Van Amstel to visit St. Petersburg during IMDS-2011

Dutch warship will call at St. Petersburg during International Maritime Defense Show (IMDS-2011), reports the Central Navy Portal referring to the embassy of Kingdom of the Netherlands in Moscow.

Karel Doorman type multipurpose frigate F-831 Van Amstel will pay a friendly visit and take part in 5th International Maritime Defense Show along with French and German warships. It has not been reported which of Dutch naval commanders would head the delegation.

The fourth of 8 Karel Doorman type (so-called M-class), frigate Van Amstel was commissioned in 1993 and has following characteristics:

Full-load displacement – 3,300 tons
Length – 122.3 meters
Beam – 14.4 meters
Draft – 6.2 meters
Speed – 29 knots (max); 18 knots (cruise)
Fuel range – up to 5,000 nautical miles
Propulsion: CODAG – two gas turbines Rolls-Royce Spey with overall power of 33,800 shp; two diesels with overall power of 9,790 shp
Crew – 156 men (including 16 officers)

Armament: one 76-mm Oto Melara gun mount, one 30-mm Goalkeeper CIWS system, two quadruple launchers of Harpoon antiship missiles, Sea Sparrow SAM system with 16 vertically launched missiles, two coupled torpedo tubes for Mk-46 torpedoes, various radio-electronic equipment.

The ship also has deck-based helicopter Sea Lynx.
