Qualification drills of Primorsk flotilla, Pacific Fleet (PF) are held in the Peter the Great Bay under command of Capt 1 rank Viktor Sokolov. In total, the exercise is attended by 10 warships and support vessels, deck-based and long-range ASW aviation, reported PrimaMedia referring to PF Commander's press secretary Capt 1 rank Roman Martov.

According to the "game", a hostile submarine attacked landing troops at PF training ranges. Antisubmariners have a task to detect the sub with the help of aviation and deliver torpedo and missile strike upon it.

"Submariners take part in the two-side exercise; they are tasked to hinder landing operation. The crew of Varshavyanka class diesel sub commanded by Capt 2 rank Yury Konkin managed to do that, torpedoes went towards the formation", told Roman Martov.

Tactical group drills will be the closing stage of winter training period for antisubmarine forces.

The next phase will be search of a submarine by ASW ships. Airplanes of antisubmarine aviation traditionally enter this "game" first. Assisted by equipment installed in Il-38 ASW aircraft, aviators must detect the submarine. Having "showered" the guest sub with sonar buoys, they passed the baton to small and large ASW ships.

According to Roman Martov, proficiency and sixth sense of ASW ships' sonar operators plays a major role here. Their task is to hold the target until torpedo attack.

Crews of missile ships will put hands after antisubmariners; they will conduct joint launches upon surface targets.
