Saint Petersburg city administration, JSC United Shipbuilding Corporation, and Admiralteyskie Verfi shipyard signed the trilateral agreements at 15th International Economic Forum. They provide investments in new shipbuilding complex on the Kotlin Island (St. Petersburg), and relocation of Admiralteyskie Verfi from Novo-Admuralteysky Island.

New shipyard to be constructed in St. Petersburg

The documents were endorsed by St. Petersburg Governor Valentina Matvienko, president of JSC United Shipbuilding Corporation Roman Trotsenko, and acting Director General of JSC Admiralteyskie Verfi Mikhail Alexandrov.
Volume of investments to the new shipbuilding complex will be about EUR 720 mln; the project is supposed to be implemented within 8 years. The new shipyard will have 6,500 work positions.
Since shipbuilding is the St. Petersburg's key economic branch, the city is in need for new shipyards, said Valentina Matvienko during the agreement signing. The shipyard on Kotlin Island will represent a new hi-tech manufacture. The governor emphasized that Admiralteyskie Verfi would be fully work-loaded right until the new yard's completion. The company has already formed backlog of orders for the nearest 8 years.
Mrs. Matvienko said the shipyard's former territory would be put up for tender. It is planned to build a new quarter there with residential blocks, business and recreation centers. New buildings with appropriate social infrastructure are to be constructed on the Kotlin Island as well. "We are about to keep skilled employees who presently work at Admiralteyskie Verfi", assured Valentina Matvienko.
Roman Trotsenko said that JSC United Shipbuilding Corporation has already signed an agreement with a large South Korean company regarding construction of a new shipyard; it is planned to start designing works in the current year. The new yard is to occupy over 200 ha; part of that area will be formed artificially.
The participants underlined that successful implementation of that project would contribute to socioeconomic development of Kronshtadt district and shipbuilding industry in general.
