Indian and Russian companies work on hypersonic version of BrahMos stealth cruise missile which is supposed to be 7 times faster than sound, said director of BrahMos Aerospace Sivathanu Pillai on Oct 9.

"We're about to design new thrust motor, new materials resistant to high temperatures and vibrations, and appropriate onboard electronics", said Pillai at the press conference took place in southern Indian state Tamil Nadu. According to him, numerous Russian and Indian companies participate in designing of the missile's components and subsystems. Among them are Indian Institute of Science and Moscow Aeronautical Institute; they are to develop key technologies for hypersonic BrahMos missile.

BrahMos Aerospace Private Limited is a Russian-Indian joint venture established by Defense Research and Development Organization (India) and NPO Mashinostroyenia (Russia). BrahMos missile will be launched by submarines, surface ships, airplanes, and land-based platforms.
