Unmanned air reconnaissance, surveillance and monitoring system with UAVs Eleron-10 designed by JSC ENIKS (Kazan, Russia) would be possibly based on one of Russian icebreakers with the view to hold Arctic researches, said the bureau's chief designer Ildar Yakupov.

Through recent years, polar stations have been equipped with UAVs Eleron-3. The system has been effectively used at four polar stations (SP-35, SP-36, SP-37, and SP-38) and is currently working at SP-39, reminded the designer.

Yakupov also added that Eleron-10 had been successfully used in research works near Spitsbergen Archipelago. Normally, the system consists of two UAVs Eleron-3 or Eleron-10.

UAV Eleron-10 is capable to carry video surveillance, photographic or thermal observation equipment. The 'flying wing' vehicle is powered by electric motor. Take off is performed by pneumatic catapult. While in flight, the UAV has very low optical, acoustic, and radar signature. Landing is carried out by parachute system fr om the altitude of 30 meters on unprepared lim ited-size place. Flight modes: manual and automatic with possible shift to manual or autonomous modes.
