Northern Fleet Updates Fire Trucks, First In 20 Years

11/10/2011
Text: RIA Novosti
For the first time in 20 years Russia's Northern Fleet (NF) renewed fire-fighting automotive equipment, reports NF Information Support Group on Nov 10.

In the summer 2011 Russian defense ministry announced large-scale maintenance program of fire trucks in southern military units. These works were result of strengthened fire safety measures at military depots and arsenals. Now is the turn of Northern Fleet.

"Twenty one fire trucks ATs-6-40 mounted on Ural-43202 were delivered to NF firefighting teams. Primarily, arsenals and fuel/lubricant storages were equipped with new firefighting equipment", says the press release.

Currently, all NF firefighting teams are equipped in full.

According to Russian defense ministry, new fire trucks have better cross-country capability, improved ergonomics, and handy location of fire-extinguishing equipment; that considerably reduces deployment time. The trucks are equipped with up-to-date hydraulic hardware making possible to overcome iron concrete barriers and metal structures. As is planned, lifetime of new fire trucks would be over 10 years. NF firefighters expect other 12 fire trucks in this year to replace time-expired vehicles.
