Black Sea Fleet (BSF) task unit consisting of frigate Smetlivy and rescue ship Epron has returned to Sevastopol from the Mediterranean Sea.

The ships took part in the IONIEX 2011 Russo-Italian exercise regularly held since 2004. Mariners of the two countries jointly practiced search operations against trafficking of arms, munitions, contraband, and drugs.

The ships carried out gun firing drill, practiced search and attack of a submarine, and rescued a "distressed" vessel.

On board Russian ships were marine units from BSF Marine Brigade. They performed anti-terror functions and acted as search teams. Actions of Russian servicemen were highly appreciated by Italian naval command.

Solemn meeting ceremony was arranged in Sevastopol. BSF Antisubmarine Ship Brigade Commander Capt 1 rank Oleg Krivorog thanked the crewmen for the excellently done job and handed over traditional piglet roast.
