Russian Navy command has summarized results of anti-piracy activities. It was pointed out that regular presence of Russian warships in the Gulf of Aden has proved high effectiveness of measures taken by Russian defense ministry and Russian Navy command.

In 2011, Russian warships maintaining security in the Gulf of Aden and near the Horn of Africa have escorted 32 convoys with 168 vessels of different classes under flags of 27 countries, including 62 ships with Russian sailors on board. Lives of 448 Russian citizens were secured.

In the current year, anti-piracy mission in the Gulf of Aden was carried out by Pacific Fleet (PF) task unit consisting of large ASW ship Admiral Vinogradov, tanker Pechenga, rescue tug SB–522, and the Russian Navy's joint task unit consisting of large ASW ship Severomorsk (Northern Fleet), tanker Yelnya (Baltic Fleet), and seagoing tug MB-304 (Black Sea Fleet).

Currently, civil ships heading through the Gulf of Aden are protected from pirate attacks by PF task unit consisting of large ASW ship Admiral Panteleyev, tanker Boris Butoma, and rescue tug Fotiy Krylov.

This unit will soon be shifted by another PF task force comprising large ASW ship Admiral Tributs, tanker Pechenga, and seagoing tug MB-37.
