Artillery units of Northern Fleet (NF) Marine Regiment have completed the first in 2012 field drill with practical firing by 122-mm self-propelled howitzers Gvozdika and 82-mm mortars Podnos. Over 200 high-explosive fragmentation shells and mortar bombs were spent during the drill.

The field drill became the first serious preparedness test for crews of self-propelled howitzers and mortars. Prime objective of the drill was improving teamwork and commanding skills of the crews.

Over 40% of personnel attended the drill were servicemen arrived in the regiment in spring 2011 during draft campaign and signed military contract early 2012. Further intensive training would help to drill crews of artillery guns, and practice firing skills.

Particular emphasis was put on training of crew leaders. They directed selection, equipping and concealment of firing positions, and adjusted fire.
