Nuclear-powered guided missile submarine (SSGN) Severodvinsk will be armed with new torpedoes Fizik-1, reported Russian Defense Ministry.

"Information about the tender issued by Russian Defense Ministry was posted on the state procurement website. The tender implies technical maintenance of Russian 533-mm torpedoes Fizik-1 (Product 2534) designed by JSC Marine Thermotechnics Research Institute, and modernization of practice torpedoes of that kind at trials of Project 885 SSGN Severodvinsk", says the post in military analytic blog bmpd in Live Journal.
As a result of mentioned trials, it is planned to finish commission procedure of Fizik-1 torpedoes; meanwhile, such torpedoes are to be the only torpedo type for Project 885 submarines and modifications, says the post.
Overall cost of the contract is RUR 96 mln. It must be executed by Nov 25, 2012.
