Recall that Pacific Fleet (PF) Procuracy on Oct 17, 2011 contested the verdict delivered by PF Court Martial on Oct 14 in Vladivostok. The court found the submarine's commanding officer Capt 1 rank Dmitry Lavrentiev and Petty Officer Dmitry Grobov not guilty of the accident.
The tragedy happened to SSN Nerpa on Nov 8, 2008 during sea trials in the Yellow Sea. As a result of unauthorized operation of onboard firefighting system, mixture of freon and carbon dichloride began to enter compartments. Totally, there were 208 men inside the sub, 20 of them died, other 21 were intoxicated.
