Project 21630 corvette (small-size gunnery ship) Makhachkala will be commissioned into Caspian Flotilla (CF) by the end of the current year, said Col Igor Gorbul, press secretary of Southern Military District.

The ship is being currently accepted by the crew; experts of Almaz Shipbuilding Firm (St. Petersburg) teach the crewmen how to operate and maintain onboard systems.

"Naval servicemen and the shipyard's representatives will test navigation-related elements, check general systems, radio communication and monitoring facilities, power plants. They are also going to test all armament systems and NBC protection aids, check the hull's survivability and resistance to external influence", specified Gorbul.

The ship was developed by Zelenodolsk Design Bureau. Corvette Makhachkala is built under stealth technology and armed with 100-mm multipurpose gun mount A-190, two 30-mm six-barreled automatic guns AK-306 and 122-mm 40-tube stern multiple launch rocket system Grad-M. Thanks to shallow draft and high maneuverability, corvette Makhachkala is capable to accomplish wide range of tasks in Caspian Sea's littoral zone and rivers.
