Russian-Ukrainian political consultations were held in Moscow on Apr 18 between Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Grigory Karasin and his Ukrainian counterpart Ruslan Demchenko, reported press service of Russian foreign ministry.

Moscow, Kiev Talked Over "Contractual Basis" Of Black Sea Fleet Deployment

Being co-chairmen of bilateral subcommittee on Russian Black Sea Fleet (BSF) functioning in Ukraine, Karasin and Demchenko discussed improvement of contractual basis related to BSF activities in Crimea.
Russian foreign ministry does not report on the meeting's results. In their turn, Ukrainian diplomats do not mention about the Moscow meeting at all.
According to the Kharkov Treaty 2010, Ukraine got 30% discount on Russian natural gas in exchange for prolongation of Russian Black Sea Fleet deployment in Crimea up to 2042. Recall that Ukraine has recently brought up an issue of the gas contract renegotiation with the view to lower prices for Russian gas. Some Ukrainian experts said prior to the Karasin-Demchenko meeting that Ukraine could again blackmail Russia with the status of its Black Sea Fleet, just like it was before the Kharkov agreements.
