Baltic Fleet (BF) frigate Yaroslav Mudry is going to participate in the FRUKUS-2012 joint naval exercise to be held since June 24 till July 2 for the first time in the Baltic Sea. Except for Yaroslav Mudry, the exercise will be attended by warships of Great Britain, France, and the US.

Basic planning conference of the FRUKUS exercise was recently held in St. Petersburg. Apart from the Russian delegation, the conference was attended by defense attachés of the US, Great Britain, and France, as well as commanding officers of participating ships.

According to chief of BF Combat Training Dept Capt 1 rank Sergei Volkov heading the Russian delegation, the parties agreed upon general concept of the exercise. For one, its sea phase will be held in June 27-30 and comprise episodes of repelling attacks of small-size vessels and aircraft, joint maneuvering within tactical groups, rendering assistance to a distressed ship, searching operations, and gun firing drills.

Besides, the parties coordinated organizational issues including calls at ports of Baltiysk and St. Petersburg.

It is planned that ship commanding officers will convene in May 21-23 in the Central Naval Museum (St. Petersburg) to hold final planning conference.
