Project 21300S rescue ship Igor Belousov being constructed for Russian Navy since 2005 will receive two new deep-sea two-seat submersibles ARS-600 in 2013, reports RIA Novosti referring to a source in Russian defense ministry.

Russian Navy's Rescue Ship Receives New Submersibles

According to the interviewee, the submersibles will be delivered by DiveTechnoService Ltd (St. Petersburg). ARS-600 (Dual DeepWorker made by Canadian company Nuytco Research Limited) is designed for search, examination and lifting of various underwater objects from the seabed; sustaining life activity of crews in distressed submarines; docking of other rescue facilities with distressed submarines.
ARS-600 has a double-hulled design and can be controlled from any of the hulls. The crew consists of two men, pilot and engineer. Sonar systems are used for navigation and communication. Earlier on, Russian Navy command decided to equip Igor Belousov with deep-sea diving system Divex supposed to be delivered by Tetis PRO.
Rescue ship Igor Belousov is being constructed by JSC Admiralteyskie Verfi shipyard. Initially, it was supposed that the ship would be commissioned into Northern Fleet in 2009, but the construction has been drawn out. One of the reasons was delays in development of diving system by Lazurit Design Bureau which suggested to postpone delivery date for 2015 and requested additional financing to the amount of RUR 1.3 bln.
Presently, it is expected that Igor Belousov will be put afloat late in 2012 and join Russian Navy in 2014. Being 107.3-meter long and displacing 5,000 tons, the rescue ship will be equipped with deep-sea submersible capable to dive down to 700 meters, decompression chamber for 60 submariners, 60-meter deep diving station, and an unmanned submersible.
