Ships of Russian Navy bear no relation to the armed incident occurred on Tuesday off Somali port town Kismayu, a Russian military diplomat yesterday told Interfax-AVN.

As for the source, Russian warships did not participate in that incident as they were deployed in another part of the Gulf of Aden.

Operating in Somalia, militants from radical Islamist movement Al-Shabaab declared on Tuesday that they had attacked "two foreign ships" approached their den, port of Kismayu.

According to a spokesman of Al-Shabaab, those ships "opened reprisal fire" against the coast. He did not specify the nationality of the foreign ships. Such kind of incident happened for the first time since 2008 when international community deployed naval forces in the Gulf of Aden.
