The Black Sea Fleet participates in the rescue operation in the South of Russia

The Black Sea Fleet (BSF) sailors of the Russian Federation render relief work to citizens of Krasnodar region, hit by disastrous floods last weekend. Press relations service of Russian Western Command told Central Navy Portal.

The BSF personnel on the strength of Novorossiysk Military Reservation participates in the disaster clean-up and rescue operation in Krasnodar region. First hours after the flooding beginning special subunits forces, using more than 20 units of equipment, inspected the flooded area and transported saved people to evacuation centers.

According to directive of Novorossiysk naval station Command, for evacuation of citizens, affected by the flooding, motor boats Kaiman were sent to the disaster area.

The official website of Russian Ministry of Defence informed, that rescue and recovery service groups and subunits of assault forces of Novorossiysk naval station were ready to carry out the relief mission in 15 minutes after getting the directive from Naval Command.

The BSF personal, equipment and property of Novorossiysk naval station were not affected by the flooding. The low-risk flooding of military units of The Black Sea Fleet territory, nearest to Krymsk, was noticed.

Intense flooding in the Black Sea region of southern Russia killed over 171 people after torrential rains had begun on Friday. 6 th June, dropping more than 30 centimeters of water. Many of the dead were elderly people or handicapped.

According to latest data, 48,000 people have been affected by the disaster. About 17,600 people remain without electricity, 28,000 – without gas, and 2,000 do not have tap water, the emergencies ministry said. Over 9,000 people are now tackling the aftermath of the fatal flooding.
