Being deployed in the eastern part of the Mediterranean Sea, Russian Navy's 5-ship interfleet task force started practicing of joint maneuvering in formation, reports online Vzglyad referring to Russian defense ministry press service.

"In accordance with the long-range deployment plan, the ships practice joint maneuvering on assigned course. Warships maneuver to make antisubmarine, antiship, and antiaircraft formations", said a defense ministry's spokesman.

The joint interfleet task force is deployed in the Mediterranean Sea and consists of Northern Fleet task unit (landing ships Alexander Otrakovsky, Georgy Pobedonosets, and Kondopoga) and Baltic Fleet task unit (frigates Yaroslav Mudry and Neustrashimy), reports ITAR-TASS.

Russian ship also held drills in countering of drug trafficking and terrorism. "In the region where shipping is so intensive, vigilance of the shipborne watch was increased; the crews conduct permanent radio-navigational and visual monitoring of the situation along the route", said the military.

"Traditionally, Russian warships exchange information with Russian civil vessels heading in the Mediterranean", added the interviewee.

Northern Fleet destroyer Vice Admiral Kulakov and two Black Sea Fleet supply vessels – replenishment tanker Ivan Bubnov and seagoing tug MB-304 – will join the task force in the nearest days, the military spokesman said.
