Confidence-2012 Exercise to Take Place in Novorossiysk

Naval exercise Confidence-2012 will be held at Russia's Black Sea Fleet (BSF) Novorossiysk Naval Base in Aug 21-23.

The exercise will be directed by Capt 1 Rank Sergei Pinchuk. Its main objective is strengthening of confidence and security in the Black Sea region. Although the exercise program does not imply firing drills, naval mariners will hold search-and-rescue operation assisted by aircraft. In addition, a counter-terror team will practice interception of a violator ship with "terrorists" on board.

Russia will be represented by landing ship Novocherkassk, corvette Kasimov, seagoing minesweeper Vice Admiral Zakharyin, rescue tug SB-4, diving boat VM-86, hydrographic ship GS-402, communication boat, search-and-rescue helicopter Ka-27PS, counter-terror team, and paraborne group of BSF Naval Aviation.

Representatives of Black Sea navies will observe actions of Russian counterparts; they will also familiarize with infrastructure and warships stationed in Novorossiysk Naval Base.
