Baltic Fleet Gets New Commander

Vice Admiral Viktor P. Kravchuk was appointed Baltic Fleet (BF) Commander by the presidential decree No. 1290 issued on Sept 14, 2012, the BF spokesman Capt 2 Rank V. Matveyev told Central Navy Portal.

Prior to that, the officer exercised functions of the fleet commander. On this post, VADM Kravchuk has shifted Viktor Chirkov who was appointed Russian Navy Commander-in-Chief in May 2012.

Curriculum vitae

Viktor Kravchuk was born on Jan 18, 1961 in Palasher, Perm region. In 1983 he graduated from naval college in Vladivostok and was posted to Pacific Fleet. Through his career, Kravchuk served as a navigating officer of a corvette, and commanding officer of a missile boat.

Upon termination of High Naval Officer Course in 1988, he continued service as executive officer and then commander of a missile boat division. After that he was appointed executive officer and commander of a missile boat brigade. In 1997, he finished correspondence study in the Kuznetsov Naval Academy. In 1999-2000 he held the post of Caspian Flotilla Deputy Commander for Armaments.

In 2002 he graduated from Russian General Staff Military Academy.

In 2002-2005 Kravchuk held the office of Caspian Flotilla Deputy Commander.

In 2004 he was promoted to Rear Admiral by presidential decree. In 2005 Kravchuk was appointed Caspian Flotilla Commander. In 2007 he achieved the rank of Vice Admiral.

On Dec 26, 2009 VADM Viktor Kravchuk was appointed Baltic Fleet Deputy Commander.
