Northern Fleet (NF) nuclear submarine base Gadzhievo located 100 km away from Severomorsk will be ready to accommodate new Borei- and Yasen-class fourth-generation submarines, the chairman of All-Russian navy-supporting movement Mikhail Nenashev told RIA Novosti.

At present, Gadzhievo base accommodates third-generation nuclear-powered submarines.

"Today, all efforts of Northern Fleet command and Gadzhievo administration are focused on upgrading of the base infrastructure in order to make it capable to accommodate new fourth-generation nuclear submarines", Nenashev said before opening of the solemn meeting related to the base's 55-th anniversary.

He reminded that Borei-class strategic nuclear submarine SSBN Yury Dolgoruky would be commissioned into the Navy in this year. Yasen-class nuclear-powered attack submarine SSGN Severodvinsk is expected to join the Navy in the next year.
