Indian Navy successfully tested supersonic cruise missile BrahMos launched by the newest frigate INS Teg; the missile is capable to deliver a 300-kg conventional warhead to the range of 290 km, reports ZEENEWS.com referring to own sources.

Maneuvering at high altitude, the missile destroyed a ship dummy target. Frigate INS Teg was built by Russian shipyard Yantar; two other ships of this class, INS Tarkash and INS Trikand will be also armed with BrahMos vertically-launched cruise missiles. They have two stages; the first one is solid-propellant, the second is equipped with ramjet engine. Those missiles are already in the inventory of Indian Army and Navy. Air-based variant undergoes final phase of trials.
BrahMos missiles began to enter Indian Navy's service in 2005 (INS Rajput). According to the source, development of submarine variant also demonstrates progress.
Indian Army ordered BrahMos missiles to equip three regiments; two of them are already in service, the third one will be deployed in Arunachal Pradesh. Joint Russian-Indian company BrahMos Aerospace keeps working on air- and submarine-based versions of the missile.
