Defense Ministry to Pay Penalty for Non-Accepting SSBN Yury Dolgoruky

JSC Sevmash building Project 955 Borei nuclear-powered strategic submarines is about to claim for RUR 30 mln fr om Russian defense ministry non-accepting the Borei-class lead submarine Yury Dolgoruky, reports Izvestiya referring to the shipyard's high-ranking representative.

Sevmash shipyard has to maintain the submarine, since defense minister Anatoly Serdiukov decided to postpone commissioning of the sub and, therefore, defrayal of all maintenance expenditures.

According to the source, non-accepting of the submarine is related to nonavailability of mooring quays, primarily at Kamchatka wh ere first two Borei-class subs, Yury Dolgoruky and Alexander Nevsky will be stationed.

It was reported earlier that nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine SSBN Yury Dolgoruky will be commissioned into Russian Navy in 2013. Initially, it was planned that the new sub would join the Navy in Sept-Oct 2012.
