Black Sea Fleet (BSF) destroyer Smetlivy and seagoing tug MB-304, Italian frigates Aviere and Zeffiro took the sea on Nov 8 to carry out practical phase.

When leaving Italian base Taranto, participants held joint drill protecting ships piloted behind sweeps. Italian fast-speed boats and a helicopter "attacked" the Russian-Italian task force. After that, ships practiced exchange of targeting information in order to make common air/surface picture.

Later on that day, Russian destroyer Smetlivy and Italian frigates Aviere and Zeffiro held gun-firing drill at towed target, visitation of a suspicious vessel, and control of commercial shipping.

The first day of sea phase finished with submarine search drill and nighttime navigation.
