Russian shipyards did not want to build research vessel

The Russian government allocated 2.4 billion RUB for the construction of a new major Polar research vessel. However, no Russian shipyards wanted to build the vessel. Now the order has gone abroad, to the Ukrainian Herson shipyard.

Russian Arctic and Antarctica researchers have long lobbied the construction of a new flagship for polar research. Now, it turns out, no Russian shipyard want to build the vessel.

The reason, vdvsn.ru reports, is the modest sum allocated by the government. According to the news site, the technical demands in the project are too high considering that the project budget is set to 2.4 billion RUB.
