Vladivostok remembers the dead, celebrates the living

02/16/2009
A ceremony dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the withdrawal of Soviet troops from Afghanistan took place at the Russian Pacific Fleet on February 14.

Wreaths and flowers were laid at the monument to sailors of the Fleet who died in local military conflicts, at the grave of the soldier-internationalist (at the naval cemetery), as well as near the eternal flame of the Battle Glory memorial of the Pacific Fleet.

A concert in which the folk songs and dances ensemble of the Fleet and many other local acts took part was held at the Officer’s club.

A religious service for those who fell in Afghanistan was held at a church on the Korabelnaya embankment.
