Norwegian yacht apprehended in East Siberian Sea is deported from Russia
09/07/2009 Source:Frontiersmen expulsed Norwegian yacht RX-2 had been arrested in East Siberian Sea beyond Russian territorial waters; the cause was the frontier violation, as was reported to RIA Novosti by representative of FSB Northeast border division on Monday.
The Norwegian-flag yacht RX-2 (homeport Grimstar) with three crew members – subjects of the Kingdom of Norway – was found near the Northern Sea Route by Neva border guard cruiser on August, 24. The yacht captain didn't have a cross permit of the RF Ministry of Transport and the Northern Sea Route Administration. There was no reconcilement with Rosturizm of cruise duration, route and RF ports entries. Moreover, the yacht had not passed mandatory frontier and customs clearance in Murmansk. The frontiersmen decided to escort Norwegian vessel to Provideniye port (Chukotka District) for subsequent investigation.
"Examination of the fact of Russian state borders violation by crew members of Norwegian yacht RX-2 has been completed. Upon the decision of Provideniye regional court, the yacht crew members – citizens of Norway - accounted guilty of administrative violations specified in part 2, article 18 of Administrative Offences Code of the Russian Federation (violation of state borders)" – the border division representative reported.
According to him, the court imposed an 11 400-rub penalty on the violators. On Sept, 6 the yacht RX-2 was expulsed from Provideniye port and deported beyond Russian territorial waters.
Sailing yacht RX-2 is engined, its displacement is 17 t, length is 36,3 feet, width is 10,1 feet, draft is 9,3 feet. The vessel is fitted out for navigation in severe environment of northern seas; satellite phone and 150W VHF-communicator are available.
BGC Neva patrolled the Northern Sea Route in the context of borderline forces presence in Russian Arctic sector. After long-term break, FSB border guard vessels and aviation have restarted their presence here since mid 2008.
