The construction of aircraft carrier requires Federal program – Ministry of Defense
09/19/2009 Source:The adoption of Federal target program is necessary for construction of Russian aircraft carrier, said Vladimir Popovkin, Deputy Minister of Defense for armament.
"It is impossible to build aircraft carrier upon current weaponry program. We need to adopt the Federal target program", said Popovkin on the air to Ekho Moskvy radio.
The Deputy Minister reported that the research work on specification of future aircraft carrier appearance is in progress. Meanwhile, he mentioned that the question is not the construction of only one aircraft carrier, but the group of them.
"One aircraft carrier is a good target, we need escort group", said Popovkin adding that coastal basing infrastructure is also essential.
The Ministry of Defense will make all required calculations related to the ship building prospects, but the decision is upon the government or Security Council, the Deputy Minister added.
