Black Sea Fleet seamen mugged Ukrainian
09/18/2009Investigatory actions on the case of mugging Ukrainian citizen by five servicemen of Russian Black Sea Fleet on Monday are going on in Sevastopol. The complainant Vyacheslav M., the resident of Sevastopol, forfeited cell phone Nokia 6151, costs about 1300 grivna.
Although Ukrainian MIA Directorate in Sevastopol does not officially comment the course of investigation, informed sources of the directorate said that four seamen were released and one is still held by law enforcement bodies, informs Interfax-Ukraina.
In the context of the situation, Sevastopol municipal organization VO Svoboda addressed to Ukrainian Prosecutor General and Sevastopol Attorney with the demand to initiate a criminal case based on assault of Russian Black Sea Fleet servicemen against Ukrainian citizen and to prohibit them free movement over Ukraine.
According to preliminary information, on Sept, 14 Gagarinsky local police precinct of Sevastopol got an application from Vyacheslav M. that unknown persons mugged him and took his cell phone away.
As a consequence, according to informed source in Sevastopol, police detained the servicemen of Russian Black Sea Fleet – the seamen of light antisubmarine ship Muromets – contract term seaman Pavel Butyrin and regular term seamen Ashkhatoyan Gevork, Vladimir Petrovsky, Mikhail Zemskov and Aleksey Vigolov.
The Black Sea Fleet Information and Public Relations Service in its turn confirmed the fact of arrest of Russian serviceman by Ukrainian police in interview to Interfax AVN on Thursday. "Really, one of the seamen is detained by police. But there will be no official comments until his guilt is ascertained", said the representative of the Black Sea Fleet.
He remarked that the investigation is carried out by Ukrainian law authorities without participation of Russian Black Sea Fleet military procuracy officials. "Since the question is potential violation of Ukrainian legislation, the investigation is held by Ukrainian law enforcement authorities", said the Black Sea Fleet representative.
