Russia to have powerful Navy in ten years

09/29/2009
Maritime stage of the large-scale exercise Zapad-2009 with the ships of Baltic, Northern and Black Sea Fleets carried out in Baltic.

Russia will be able to reanimate powerful Navy in the nearest decade, said Russian President Dmitry Medvedev observing the maneuvers.

The replacement a number of ships had been servicing for 20-25 years was named as the most important objective. Despite the crisis, the funds for Navy rearmament are within the budget according to the governmental program, so "there will be plenty of ships to serve", said the head of the state.

"I'm sure that in the nearest ten years we will manage to improve our Navy to the level necessary for our country. And that level is a powerful Navy", quotes RIA Novosti.

In the framework of the exercise the President was shown new samples of weapons and equipment – assault rifles for shooting underwater and overland, rigid underwater suits capable to be used on the depth of 365 meters.

Mobile transport system Pantera Plus designed for rendering of assistance to sunk and injuried vessels and capable to submerge up to 1 000 meters was presented as well.

Dmitry Medvedev highly appreciated the level of maneuvers and appealed to conduct such kind of events more frequently.
