CSTO maneuvers Cooperation-2009 start in Kazakhstan

Cooperation-2009 maneuvers are a third stage of a large-scale operability test of armed forces of CSTO members. The objective is improvement of combat skills.

The final stage of joint head-quarter exercise Cooperation-2009 will be maneuvers scheduled on mid-October at Matybulak Range of Kazakhstan's Regional Command "South". Control authorities and collective operational forces of CSTO will participate in the exercise.

Except for head-quarter exercise led by Gen Lt Nikolai Pospelov, Chief of Regional Command "East" of Kazakhstan's Armed Forces, a number of drills are conducted with participation of Russian, Armenian, Kirghiz and Tajik military units and operational groups.

About 1 500 servicemen, 100 combat vehicles ?nd four ships are involved in joint exercise conducted in Aktau, western Kazakhstan. The ships of RN Caspian Flotilla take part in the exercise.

The maneuvers are led by Gen Maj Amir Khalikov, Chief of Regional Command "Zapad" of Kazakhstan's Armed Forces.
