Arrest term of "Arctic Sea case" figurants to be defined on Oct 14-16

On Oct 14, 15 and 16 Moscow Basmanny Court will consider motion of investigators to prolong arrest period of eight persons accused in hijacking of Arctic Sea cargo vessel, said Anna Usacheva, the head of the court's press service to RIA Novosti on Monday.

Cargo vessel Arctic Sea with 15-men Russian crew aboard sailing from Finland to Algeria after mysterious disappearance late July was found in the Atlantic near Cabo Verde on August 16.

According to investigators, Arctic Sea was hijacked by eight citizens of Estonia, Latvia and Russia. Crew release operation was executed by Black Sea Fleet mariners.

Moscow Basmanny Court ratified 2-month arrest of all eight suspects of vessel hijacking on August 21.

According to Usacheva, on Oct 14 the court will consider motion of investigators requesting to prolong arrest of Russian citizen Dmitry Bartenev, stateless Aleksey Andriushin and Estonian citizen Evgeny Mironov.

The process under motions to prolong arrest of Latvian citizen Dmitry Savins and stateless Igor Borisov and Aleksey Buleeva will be initiated next day.

On Friday, Oct 16 the court will conduct session to make decision about arrest prolongation of Latvian citizen Vitaly Lepin and Russian citizen Andrei Lunev.

Seven suspects were accused of hijacking and charged in abetment under part 3 article 227 and point "a" part 3 article 126 of RF Criminal Code (piracy and kidnapping committed with force, weapons, by organized group). Eighth suspect is accused of organization of a crime.
