Antarctic expedition to be carried out in 2010

Omsk Production Association Popov Radio Manufacturing Plant will develop special technological solutions for Antarctic expedition "Elysium Shakleton's Antarctic Visual Epic" planned in 2010.

The expedition will be conducted in the period of Feb 10 – March 1, 2010 and dedicated to 100th anniversary of Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition led by Sir Ernest Shakleton (1914-1916).

The intention is to research current condition of Antarctic and to document diversity of biomass of glacier, ground and marine environments in the late of new millennium's first decade. These researches will be significant in learning of Earth's climate changes. A special book and a documentary are planned to be produced upon results of the expedition.

The route is following: Ushuaia Island – Weddell Sea (Antarctic Peninsula) – Elephant Island – South Georgia Island – Ushuaia Island.

Participants of the expedition are famous researchers, eminent scientists, outstanding photographers and cameraman from all over the world. Known Russian underwater photographer and columnist Klim Kolosov will represent Russia in the expedition.
