Vessel arrested in Shanghai is enough of provisions
11/02/2009 Source:Russian crew of MV Orient Wind arrested in Shanghai on charge of sea incident is supplied with foodstuffs, fresh water and fuel; the guild regularly contacts crew and shipowner, said Nikolai Sukhanov, the head of Far East Branch of Russian Guild of Sailors (RGS) to RIA Novosti on Monday.
Oct 30 Russian Consulate General in Shanghai received a message from operator and shipowner of Cambodia-flagged vessel Orient Wind that the ship and its 12-men Russian crew are arrested at Shanghai port, informed Russian MFA on Sat. According to the ministry referring to operator and shipowner, the vessel was seized because it had collided with Chinese cargo vessel Di Hai-16 in East China Sea on June 13, 2009. Shipowner and Shanghai port authorities hold by just the opposite versions about who is guilty of that accident, reported Russian MFA.
"Crewmembers of Orient Wind are residents of Nakhodka, Primorsky Krai. We keep in touch with shipowner, sailors and their relatives", Sukhanov said.
"Currently, the situation causes no concern; the crew has not been cast loose", he added.
The guild keeps the situation under control and is ready to solve sailors' problems, if necessary, Sukhanov said. So far, it is uncertain how much time it will take, added the interviewee.
"We track the situation and will participate, if needed. For instance, if shipowner is short of money we'll assist in repatriation", said Sukhanov.
Russian Consulate General in Shanghai maintain contact with vessel's captain, shipowner and marine agent for rendering consular assistance and, if needed, protection of Russian citizens' legitimate rights.
