Russian know-how is able to turn cargo vessel into warship

12/15/2009

Russian-made multipurpose shipborne missile systems capable to turn almost any vessel into powerful warship were displayed at defense show LIMA-2009 finished on Sat in Malaysia, said Rostislav Atkov, concern Morinformsistema Agat, Assistant Director General on military and technical cooperation.

"In particular, multipurpose shipborne missile systems (MSMS) may be installed at those ships delivered to the region by Germany", said Mr. Atkov to Interfax-AVN.

MSMS may be armed with four types of missiles; three of them are Club missiles and fourth one is Russian-Indian BrahMos, he specified.

As for Mr. Atkov, there are four German-made vessels in the region which could be armed with such systems, "plus, there's an option for four ships more". "We offer to refit vessels delivered here by Germany into serious warships. We have a very attractive product. Not every country can afford powerful ships, but any vessel may be turned into a combat one with appropriate equipment and armament", said Mr. Atkov.
