The medal "For Naval Merit" was instituted in Russia

Committee on public medals and memorable signs unanimously voted for institution of medal "For Naval Merit", informs regional public organization (RPO) Academy of Russian Symbolics.

The medal has been instituted to promote service in Russian Navy and maintain naval traditions. The new award will be invested to those servicemen of Russian (Soviet) Navy, RF FSB Coast Guard (Soviet KGB) and naval units of Russian (Soviet) MIA; civil staff of the fleets; representatives of naval science and industry; and other persons who support veteran movement and contribute to strengthening of naval traditions. Those who authorized to invest the medal are Chairman of Committee on public medals and memorable signs, commanders of naval units, directors of industrial enterprises and organizations, heads of veteran associations and public organizations.

Production of medals and credentials are financed by extrabudgetary funds; investing of the medal does not provide any privileges to the bearer.
